Huhtamaki - Ireland
The Client
Huhtimaki is a global consumer and speciality packing company with a good position in smooth and rough molded fiber products, release films, flexible packing, foodservice paper cups and other products based on paper forming technology.
Today, Huhtamaki employs approximately 13,00 emplyees in 59 manufacturing units in 34 countries worldwide.
The site at Lurgan in Ireland producesegg cartons and drink holders for the fast food industry and has a workforce of 196 employees.

The site operates a fleet of counter balance, Reach trucks and Pallet trucks on a five year lease from Linde Material Handling.
The Objective
The requirement was for a smartcard system that would ensure only suitably trained operatives could use the equipment along with the facility to identify who was causing damage to trucks and racking.
The Solution
Followinf meetings with the customer to determine their requirments Davis Derby supplied and fitted a Full Fleet Management System to the counter balance and reach trucks and an Access Control only to the pallet trucks.
The counter balance and reach trucks down load data frequency to a central server which nominated managers are able to access from their desktops.
The Results
Since the implementation of the Davis Derby system damage to racking has been reduced by 40%. There was clear evidence that having the system was having a positive effect on driver's taking greater responsibility for their actions.
What The Client Said
Jeff Kearon Logistics Manager reported that the quality of information was such that their intention going forward was to incorporate it as a mesure within their employee performance process.
